Them Cattle Down Thar

Posted in College Football, FSU, Livestock at 5:41 pm by Halleck T.

Already feel uncomfortable with the relationship between Southerners and their livestock? Well, the relations are a little more public this week, which begs the return of the eternal question: What’s up with cows and Tallahassee?

First:

“That’s his* role,” defensive coordinator Mickey Andrew said. “Every herd of cattle I’ve ever seen had a bell cow. There’s always one cow that led ‘em to the watering hole, or led them to the barn. And it was always the same cow every time. They didn’t take turns leading the herd.”

And then:

Barnes recalled a stat that says there are 9 million people within a 150-mile radius of Gainesville. There are about 900,000 around FSU’s campus within that same circle, which includes the Gulf of Mexico. “I don’t know if we have 9 million livestock within 150 miles,” Barnes said.

So there you have it. The jokes should write themselves.

  1. [...] 8:03 – FSU Series 9: Starts with a great play call, and Herbie loves it too. Can we see some intermediate passing, over the middle maybe? Nope, Booker into the line. Perhaps Jeff Bowden’s gift is finding the strengths of opposing defenses, and playing right into them. There it is! Pass over the middle, right on cue. Now GO. Carr…yes! 3 of 5 have been good play calls- stay tuned for The Apocalypse. 4 of 6, Warren the tight end just got caught- in soccer, we say “unlucky.” There’s Booker for a good gain, 5 of 7. (And Chris Fowler just said the phrase “bell cow”, which we covered here. Good times.) 6 of 8!! This is the best called drive of the night for FSU- can we figure out who’s calling the plays here?? Herbstreit chimes in, “Couldn’t you see [Booker] being good in the pros? In the right offense?” Thanks. But right now this offense is finding the mismatches and DeCody Fagg- 7 of 10 good calls. Reverse and a great block by Weatherford- can we toss to Carr now? Please? They do, but poor execution- either Weatherford threw too deep or Carr didn’t fade back enough. Still, 9 of 12 ain’t too shabby. And there’s Warren in the end-zone! 10 of 13, WHAT A FUCKING DRIVE. Easily the best all night. FSU 20, NC State 10. (My count at the time was off, I blame the salsa- official stats: 14 plays, 99 yards, 6:34, 7 points- unreal) [...]
